The Finnish School of Watchmaking Selected for Indies.NYC’s Global “1% for the Next Generation” Initiative

The Finnish School of Watchmaking is proud to announce its inclusion in the new “1% for the Next Generation” program launched by Indies.NYC, the premier New York platform for independent artisan-watchmakers.

Starting with their upcoming salon in October 2026, Indies.NYC will direct 1% of the net proceeds from every watch sold on their platform to watchmaking schools. Uniquely, the specific beneficiary schools are chosen directly by the independent artisans themselves, creating a personal link between the makers and the next generation of talent.

We are honored to be recognized by these leading independent watchmakers as a key institution in the future of horology. This support is not just financial; it is a powerful validation of our curriculum and our students’ potential.

A Commitment to the Future of the Craft

The initiative aims to ensure that the growth of the independent watchmaking market directly fuels the education required to sustain it.

Hanna Harilainen, Principal of the Finnish School of Watchmaking, commented on the partnership:

“The future of watchmaking depends on passing knowledge and skills to the next generation. Support through initiatives like this is essential to the success of our Independent Watchmaker program. It helps remove barriers for aspiring watchmakers, provides access to high-quality training and tools, and ensures that we can continue developing the skilled professionals who will carry this craft forward for generations to come.”

The contributions received through the Indies.NYC program will provide vital support to our educational mission.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Indies.NYC, its founder Jon Cruys, and to the independent artisans who have chosen to support our school. This partnership reinforces our mission to keep the art of fine watchmaking alive and thriving.
