The Independent Watchmaker Course

Launching in 2025, the Independent Watchmaker Course at The Finnish School of Watchmaking is a specialized two-year program taught in English. Designed for aspiring watchmakers, the course provides comprehensive training in the craft, design, technology, and tools of modern horology. From mastering essential micro-mechanical skills and decoration techniques to creating a fully functional timepiece, students are guided through every step of high-end, small-scale watchmaking. With expert instruction, individual mentoring, and access to professional tools and facilities, the program prepares students for a professional career in small-scale, high-end watchmaking.

Taster Course and Bench Test

All applicants to the Independent Watchmaker Course must first complete a three-day Taster Course and Bench Test held at the Finnish School of Watchmaking in Espoo. This hands-on experience introduces candidates to the school’s teaching methods, facilities, and the essential skills required in watchmaking. The bench test evaluates motivation, coordination, and learning potential, with top-performing candidates offered a place in the upcoming class.

The first Taster Course and Bench Test is scheduled from Wednesday, June 4 to Friday, June 6, 2025, at The Finnish School of Watchmaking in Leppävaara, Espoo, Finland (Vanha maantie 11, 02650 Espoo). The sessions commence at 8 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. Optional Meet and Greet event is arranged on Saturday 7th June.

 

The participation fee is €480, which includes instruction, materials, lunch, and coffee/tea for all three days.
