The Independent Watchmaker Course is a specialized two-year program taught in English. Designed for aspiring watchmakers, the course provides comprehensive training in the craft, design, technology, and tools of modern horology. From mastering essential micro-mechanical skills and decoration techniques to creating a fully functional timepiece, students are guided through every step of high-end, small-scale watchmaking. With expert instruction, individual mentoring, and access to professional tools and facilities, the program prepares students for a professional career in small-scale, high-end watchmaking.
Masterclasses
During the course, students participate in exclusive Masterclasses led by experienced watchmaking professionals, designers, and industry experts.
These sessions provide a unique opportunity to learn directly from experts working at the highest level of contemporary horology.
Masterclasses cover a wide range of topics essential to independent watchmaking, from advanced finishing techniques and movement decoration to dial design, aesthetics, and the creative process. Students also gain insight into the business side of watchmaking, including brand building, entrepreneurship, and working as an independent maker.
Among the visiting masters is our world-renowned alumnus Kari Voutilainen, recipient of multiple Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) awards. Drawing on decades of experience as an independent watchmaker, he shares both technical expertise and valuable perspectives on building a career in high-end horology.
Through these Masterclasses, students connect with leading voices in the field, expand their professional network, and gain a broader understanding of the craft beyond the workshop.
